Jupiter’s Galilean Moons
Jupiter’s Galilean moons were discovered by Galileo Galilei in January of 1610 (which is why NASA named the spacecraft that it would dispatch to study Jupiter and its moons Galileo). All four Galilean moons are named after mythological lovers of the Greek god Zeus. Jupiter has 67 moons in total - these four are the largest.
Click through the photos for their names (they are arranged from largest to smallest).
All four images were taken by NASA’s Galileo spacecraft.
